Kruger National Park Road Update: Most Routes Reopen After Recent Rainfall Kruger National Park Road Update: Most Routes Reopen After Recent Rainfall

South African National Parks (SANParks) has provided an important update on the road conditions within Kruger National Park following significant rainfall that recently affected the area.

Fortunately, weather conditions have improved, and the majority of gravel roads are now accessible to visitors. However, it’s worth noting that the main road linking Skukuza Rest Camp to Lower Sabie Rest Camp has sustained some damage and remains partially compromised. Travelers looking to make this journey can reach Lower Sabie Rest Camp via the Tshokwane (H10) route.

In the Tshokwane area, all gravel roads have reopened, with the exception of the S33, which remains closed due to elevated water levels at the causeway. Thankfully, the Sand and Sabie low-level bridges have been cleared of debris and are now safe for passage. Additionally, the road connecting Skukuza Rest Camp to Satara Rest Camp is open and operational. In exciting news for nature enthusiasts, the Talamati Bush Camp, which had been closed, is set to reopen its doors to guests starting today, January 17, 2025. Meanwhile, Balule Camp can currently be accessed only via the Olifants River high-water bridge from the south, as the low-water bridge over the Olifants River remains impassable.

All other Bushveld Camps are open and available for booking. Although the rains have subsided for the moment, SANParks’ disaster management team is actively monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of all visitors. Travelers are urged to exercise caution, particularly on gravel roads and when using low-level bridges, as conditions can change rapidly. For those planning a trip to Kruger National Park, this update highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain accessibility while ensuring safety in the wake of the recent weather challenges. With most routes now open, visitors can look forward to exploring the stunning landscapes and wildlife that Kruger has to offer. Stay tuned for further updates from SANParks as they continue to provide vital information for a safe and enjoyable experience in one of Africa's most iconic national parks.
