Beyond the Miritini Link Line, Kenya Railways has achieved substantial progress on the wider Mombasa Island-Miritini rehabilitation project. This involves upgrading the historic MGR corridor for modern use, with 95% of rail rehabilitation and embankment works already complete. The new Mombasa Central Station, future home to the KR Coastal Regional Office, is also nearing completion, showcasing impressive progress on structural works, platforms, and essential systems.

Changamwe East and West stations, designed as convenient access points for residential and industrial areas, are also under construction. These stations will further enhance accessibility and reduce reliance on road transport.
