AirBaltic chooses Marrakech as its first scheduled service in Africa AirBaltic chooses Marrakech as its first scheduled service in Africa

27 years after its creation, AirBaltic has finally decided to serve Africa in a sustainable way. The Latvian carrier wants to take advantage of this vast market with great potential.

In a company press release published on 14 June, the airline announced the introduction of a route to Marrakech in Morocco, its first regular service to the African continent.

Flights from its Riga hub will start on 31 October this year.

Marrakech is "the most popular city for international travellers in Morocco", so AirBaltic is offering two weekly flights there. The flights will be operated with its Airbus A220-300 fleet and will last 5 hours and 30 minutes.

Departures are scheduled on Mondays and Fridays at 7.35am to arrive at 12.05pm and return flights from Morocco at 12.50pm to land at 7.05pm. The Latvian flagship will be without competition on this route.

"We are delighted to announce our first ever scheduled service to Africa. As the leading airline in the Baltic States, we continue to develop our network, adding more interesting leisure destinations also for the winter season," said Martin Gauss, CEO of AirBaltic.

With over 70 destinations in Europe, the Middle East and the CIS, AirBaltic operates 36 Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
