n its growth strategy, Air Cairo is now banking on diversifying its fleet. From the historical Airbus operator, the low-cost subsidiary of EgyptAir has started this year to introduce its first turboprop aircraft. Half a dozen are expected by the end of the year.

Air Cairo has taken delivery of its second ATR72-600. The aircraft (MSN 1148, SUBVD) arrived in Cairo on Monday 26 September from Toulouse Francazal airport in France and is owned by the lessor Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC). It was previously operated by Golden Myanmar Airlines.
This is the second turboprop aircraft in the Air Cairo fleet, after the one received last July.  Four more such aircraft are expected by the end of the year. In a tweet published on Friday 20 May, the Egyptian company revealed that "its fleet will increase to 23 aircraft by the end of 2022 with the introduction of 7 A320neo aircraft and 6 ATR72-600 aircraft".

The carrier stresses that these aircraft will help boost its 'international, regional and domestic network from Egyptian tourist airports' as it targets new markets in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Before the crisis, the carrier offered more than 200 weekly flights to 25 national and international destinations.

Air Cairo also operates nine A320-200 and four A320neo aircraft.
