Conakry has not had a national airline since the privatisation and subsequent liquidation of Air Guinea in 2002 - at the time of President Lansana Conté - under pressure from the Bretton Woods institutions. In the meantime, the West African country has attempted to relaunch a flagship airline, with no less than three projects having been initiated since 2017. The military junta currently in power is in turn reviving the issue.
