United Airlines To Increase Flights Between Accra and Washington D.C.
United Airlines has expanded its service between Accra and Washington D.C., increasing flights from three times a week to as many as seven times weekly, resulting in a 62 percent year-over-year increase in available seats. United now offers more one-stop connections from Accra than any other U.S. airline and is the only carrier providing nonstop flights from Washington D.C. to Accra.
Next year, United will operate from more destinations in Africa than any other U.S. airline. This increase in flights is part of United's broader strategy to enhance its presence in Africa, which includes a new route from Dakar to Washington D.C. planned for 2025 (pending government approval) and the recent launch of a seasonal service from Marrakesh to New York/Newark. United is the first airline to offer nonstop flights from Marrakesh to the U.S., complementing existing routes from Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, Lagos in Nigeria, and Accra in Ghana to Washington D.C.
“Africa remains a vital part of United’s global network, and we are thrilled to announce the increase of flights from Accra to Washington Dulles,” stated Oluwatomi Bola-Sadipe, United’s Country Sales Manager for Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa. “We are proud to provide our customers in Ghana with greater travel options for their next U.S. getaway, along with convenient one-stop connections to over 70 destinations across the Americas, including cities like Chicago, Columbus, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas.”
United’s service from Accra to Washington Dulles is operated using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, which feature 28 all-aisle-access United Polaris business class seats, 21 United Premium Plus premium economy seats, 36 Economy Plus seats, and 158 economy seats. The Dreamliner’s innovative design enhances passenger comfort with large windows, spacious overhead storage, and modern LED lighting that helps travelers adjust their internal clocks during the transatlantic flight. Additionally, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air, and a smoother ride contribute to a more restful arrival. United Polaris business class offers a premium travel experience focused on relaxation and comfort, featuring high-quality inflight dining, amenity products from Therabody and Saks Fifth Avenue, and full flat-bed seats with all-aisle access. United Premium Plus provides a spacious seat with extra legroom and recline compared to standard Economy Plus or economy seats, along with an amenity kit, a Saks Fifth Avenue blanket, and a plush pillow. United Economy Plus offers additional legroom and personal space, located near the front of the economy cabin for quicker exits upon arrival.
Economy Plus seating is available on all transatlantic flights. United Economy class includes complimentary food, soft drinks, juices, beer, wine, tea, coffee, and inflight entertainment. Most aircraft feature adjustable headrests and personal on-demand entertainment systems.
