Delta Expands African Network with New Routes to Morocco and Ghana Delta Expands African Network with New Routes to Morocco and Ghana

Delta Air Lines is set to significantly expand its African network later this year with the launch of new routes to Marrakech, Morocco, and Accra, Ghana. These additions mark a major milestone for the airline as it strengthens its presence on the continent, offering travelers more options for seamless connectivity between the United States and Africa.

Nonstop Service to Marrakech

Starting October 25, 2025, Delta will introduce its first-ever service to Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) in Morocco. The route will operate three times weekly from its hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), using a Boeing 767-400ER. This aircraft will feature four cabin options: Delta One, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin, ensuring a range of choices for passengers.

The new route to Marrakech will be exclusive to Delta, making it the only U.S. carrier to offer nonstop flights to the Moroccan city from Atlanta. This service will complement existing North American connections to Marrakech, including United Airlines’ flights from Newark and Air Transat’s service from Montreal. Additionally, Royal Air Maroc connects Casablanca to five North American cities, including Miami, New York (JFK), and Toronto, while Air Canada serves the Casablanca-Montreal route.

Seasonal Flights to Accra

Delta will further expand its African offerings with the launch of seasonal service between Atlanta and Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra, Ghana. Starting December 1, 2025, the route will operate daily during the winter season, catering to peak travel demand. The flights will be operated with the Airbus A330-900neo, an aircraft that has already proven successful on Delta’s JFK-Accra route launched in October 2024.

Accra remains a key destination for Delta, and the new Atlanta-Accra route will provide travelers with more flexibility and convenience. United Airlines also serves Accra from Washington Dulles (IAD), offering additional options for passengers traveling between the U.S. and Ghana.

Strengthening Delta’s Global Network

These new routes are part of Delta’s broader strategy to expand its global footprint and meet growing demand for travel to Africa. The airline’s decision to add Marrakech and Accra to its network reflects the increasing popularity of these destinations for both leisure and business travelers. Marrakech, known for its vibrant culture and historic landmarks, and Accra, a hub for commerce and tourism in West Africa, are expected to attract significant passenger traffic.

Delta’s expansion also aligns with its commitment to offering seamless connections through its SkyTeam partners. At Marrakech, passengers can continue their journey with airlines such as Air France, Air Europa, and Saudia, enhancing connectivity to other destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.

Opportunities for African Travel Professionals

The addition of these routes presents exciting opportunities for African travel agents and industry stakeholders. The new Atlanta-Marrakech and Atlanta-Accra services will make it easier for North American travelers to explore Africa, boosting tourism and business travel to the continent. Travel professionals can leverage these routes to create tailored packages that highlight the unique attractions of Morocco and Ghana, from Marrakech’s bustling souks and historic medinas to Accra’s vibrant arts scene and cultural heritage.

Additionally, the increased connectivity will benefit African travelers looking to visit the United States, offering more convenient options for both leisure and business trips. The use of modern aircraft like the Boeing 767-400ER and Airbus A330-900neo ensures a comfortable travel experience, further enhancing the appeal of these routes.

Looking Ahead

Delta’s new routes to Marrakech and Accra underscore its commitment to expanding its African network and meeting the growing demand for travel between the U.S. and Africa. With these additions, Delta continues to strengthen its position as a leading carrier in the transatlantic market, offering passengers more choices and seamless connections. For African travel professionals, these developments open up new opportunities to promote Africa as a top destination for global travelers, driving growth in the region’s tourism and aviation sectors.
