Proflight Zambia Launches Direct Lusaka-Windhoek Flights, Boosting Southern African Connectivity Proflight Zambia Launches Direct Lusaka-Windhoek Flights, Boosting Southern African Connectivity

Proflight Zambia is set to deepen regional air links with the introduction of a new route connecting Zambia’s capital, Lusaka, to Namibia’s Windhoek, starting March 3, 2026. Operating three times weekly, this service will also link Livingstone directly to Windhoek, offering fresh travel options that promise to enhance both leisure and business travel between these two Southern African neighbours.

As the sole airline providing direct flights on this route, Proflight Zambia’s new schedule is designed to deliver convenience and flexibility. Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with departure times from Lusaka at 08:30, arriving in Windhoek at 11:35 after a brief 30-minute stopover during which passengers remain on board. The Livingstone to Windhoek leg will be a nonstop service, departing at 09:55 and arriving at 11:35. Return flights from Windhoek to Livingstone and Lusaka are scheduled for early afternoon departures, facilitating smooth connections for onward travel.

Passengers will also benefit from seamless morning connections from Ndola to Windhoek, as well as evening return options from Windhoek to Ndola, Solwezi, and Mfuwe. This integrated scheduling enhances the ease of travel across key Zambian cities, making it simpler for tourists and business travellers alike to explore the diverse attractions and economic opportunities in both countries.

This route launch is more than just a new flight path; it represents a strategic move to strengthen regional integration and promote tourism and trade within Southern Africa. Namibia and Zambia share growing economic ties, supported by initiatives such as the One-Stop Border Post at Katima Mulilo and participation in the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), which aim to facilitate smoother cross-border commerce. Improved air connectivity complements these efforts by reducing travel time and increasing accessibility between the two nations.

Tourism stands to gain significantly from this development. Zambia’s Livingstone is the gateway to the world-renowned Victoria Falls, a magnet for adventure seekers and nature lovers. Meanwhile, Namibia offers iconic landscapes such as the Namib Desert and Etosha National Park, attracting safari enthusiasts and cultural tourists. By linking these destinations more directly, Proflight Zambia is opening up new possibilities for multi-destination itineraries that showcase Southern Africa’s rich natural and cultural heritage.

Captain Josias Walubita, Proflight Zambia’s Director of Flight Operations, emphasized the airline’s commitment to expanding its network and enhancing travel options: “The introduction of flights to Windhoek supports growing demand for reliable, comfortable, and efficient travel options in the Southern African region. Namibia is an important neighbour and trade partner, and this route will make travel between our countries more seamless — whether for tourism, business, or family.”

He further highlighted the broader significance of the route, noting that it “brings together two iconic destinations such as the Victoria Falls and the Namib Desert, strengthens the aviation bridge across Southern Africa, and builds on Proflight’s commitment to unlocking Zambia’s potential as a tourism and trade hub.”

Proflight Zambia’s expanding fleet, which includes six Bombardier CRJ-200 jets and a mix of turboprops, supports its growing regional ambitions. The airline’s strategic focus on enhancing connectivity within Southern Africa aligns with broader trends in the region’s aviation sector, where improved infrastructure and liberalized air service agreements are gradually overcoming historical barriers to intra-African travel.

For the Southern African aviation market, this new Lusaka-Windhoek service exemplifies the increasing demand for direct, efficient routes that bypass traditional transit hubs. It also reflects the rising importance of regional carriers in facilitating economic integration and tourism development. As Proflight Zambia continues to grow, its role as a key connector within the region is becoming ever more pronounced.

Travel professionals and tour operators should take note of this development, as it opens up fresh opportunities to craft compelling travel packages that combine Zambia’s natural wonders with Namibia’s unique desert landscapes. The enhanced connectivity promises to attract a wider range of travellers, from adventure tourists and wildlife enthusiasts to business delegates and cultural explorers.

In a region where air travel has often been constrained by limited direct options, Proflight Zambia’s new route to Windhoek marks a significant step forward. It not only facilitates easier movement between two important Southern African capitals but also signals growing confidence in the region’s aviation potential and the increasing appetite for seamless, multi-destination travel experiences.
