RwandAir’s Monrovia Office Launch Signals New Era for Liberia’s Aviation and Tourism
The recent soft launch of RwandAir’s offline office in Monrovia heralds a transformative chapter for Liberia’s aviation, tourism, and business sectors. Orchestrated by Easy Continental Travel Agency, this milestone is already being celebrated as a “new dawn” by industry leaders and government officials. For the region’s travel professionals, the move not only strengthens connections between Liberia and Rwanda but also paves the way for broader economic growth and enhanced mobility across West and East Africa.
Speaking at the official event at Monrovia City Hall on August 16, Madam Gbomai L. Bestman, President and CEO of Easy Continental Travel Agency, highlighted the strategic importance of expanding Liberia’s aviation reach. “The move to bring RwandAir to Liberia is a further step of doing this with purpose. Rwanda and Liberia share a common denominator; two war-ravaged countries. With Rwanda generating over US\$643 million in tourism last year, I think it’s something we need to tap into. This is our moment, and I am so proud of my country,” she shared, emphasizing the economic and symbolic value of this new partnership.
Beyond the immediate economic and tourism benefits, RwandAir’s new presence is set to address practical needs for the Liberian diaspora. Madam Bestman pointed out that approximately 4,000 Liberian students currently study in Rwanda and require reliable, affordable air services. The new Monrovia office is expected to create a more convenient travel bridge, not only for students but also for families and the business community, ensuring that “RwandAir will fly here and will stay.”
The Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) has welcomed the development as a turning point for the country’s underutilized aviation sector. Deputy Director General Stephen R. Johnson revealed that while Africa saw around 236 million travelers last year, Liberia’s airports recorded just over 100,000 passenger movements. He underscored the “huge potential” in the local market, noting that the arrival of any new carrier—especially one with RwandAir’s reputation and reach—opens doors for new opportunities, connectivity, and investment. “Any additional airline to our fleet creates new opportunities. It opens new doors, especially strengthening ties between two nations,” Johnson affirmed, while pledging continued support for initiatives that bolster Liberia’s aviation industry.
The impact of RwandAir’s launch is not limited to air transport alone. Deputy Minister Kadiatu Konteh-Brohiri at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism described the airline’s arrival as “the dawn of a new day for Liberia’s tourism sector.” She pointed out that the operation will foster stronger ties and increase tourism opportunities, catalyzing business growth and making Liberia a more attractive destination for investment. “The more airlines come in, the closer we are to becoming a successful tourism nation. Tourism has no boundary,” she stated, praising Easy Continental’s determination and resilience in overcoming sector challenges.
Another critical stakeholder, the Ministry of State’s Diaspora Office, emphasized how RwandAir’s Monrovia office will benefit Liberians abroad. Through a statement delivered by Coordinator Mr. Erasmus T. Williams, the office expressed readiness to form strategic partnerships with Easy Continental to broaden travel options for all Liberians—especially those in the diaspora seeking affordable and reliable connections. Williams also stressed how greater competition in the airline industry could help reduce fares and stimulate air traffic to and from Liberia.
The Diaspora Office has announced plans to spotlight RwandAir’s entry during major upcoming gatherings, such as the Liberia Diaspora Conference 2035 and the annual Diaspora Return Program in December. These initiatives will further amplify Liberia’s emerging role as a hub for diaspora engagement, business, and tourism.
For the African travel sector, RwandAir’s expansion into Liberia is a prime example of the new wave of intra-African airline partnerships and connectivity. As more African carriers look to bridge historic divides and serve the practical needs of students, business travelers, and families, the continent stands to benefit from improved mobility, diversified tourism flows, and increased trade. The Liberia-Rwanda partnership is especially significant as it connects two countries with shared histories of resilience and ambition—demonstrating how aviation can play a pivotal role in national recovery and regional unity.
As the stars align for Liberia’s aviation and tourism sectors, the message to Africa’s travel professionals is clear: strategic partnerships, persistence, and a focus on practical needs can open new markets and transform national fortunes. The RwandAir Monrovia office is not just a symbol of progress—it’s the beginning of broader opportunities for Liberia and the entire region.
