Skukuza Safari Lodge Remains Fully Operational After Restaurant Fire, SANParks Ensures Guest Comfort
South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that the Skukuza Safari Lodge, nestled within the renowned Skukuza Rest Camp in Kruger National Park, continues to operate without interruption following a fire incident on 29 October 2025 that affected part of its restaurant dining hall.
The fire, which damaged a section of the restaurant roof and was exacerbated by water used during firefighting efforts, prompted the safe evacuation of all guests from the affected area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. SANParks, together with aha Hotels & Lodges—the lodge’s management partner—acted swiftly to minimise disruption by establishing a temporary dining facility on-site, supported by back-up systems to maintain the lodge’s usual high standards of service and comfort.
Skukuza Safari Lodge, known for its luxurious accommodation and prime location within the largest rest camp and administrative headquarters of Kruger National Park, offers 128 rooms including family suites and accessible options. The lodge is celebrated for blending comfort with authentic bush experiences, featuring amenities such as a gym, swimming pool, conference centre, and a variety of dining options including à la carte, buffet meals, and outdoor bush braais.
The rapid and coordinated response to the fire was made possible thanks to the efforts of the Skukuza Airport emergency team, SANParks rangers, and the Bushbuckridge Fire Brigade. Their professionalism ensured the fire was contained quickly, allowing clean-up and repair work to commence immediately. SANParks has pledged to provide ongoing updates regarding restoration progress to keep guests and stakeholders informed.
