Air Tanzania Unveils New Dar es Salaam–Lagos–Accra Route to Boost East-West African Connectivity
Air Tanzania has inaugurated its inaugural Dar es Salaam–Lagos–Accra flight, marking a significant milestone in strengthening air links between East and West Africa. This new route not only expands the airline’s international footprint but also enhances Ghana’s connectivity and reinforces its status as a key gateway to West Africa.
The launch event in Accra was graced by Ghana’s Tourism Minister, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who emphasised the critical role of improved air connectivity in fostering tourism growth and cultural exchange across the continent. She extended a warm invitation to East Africans to discover Ghana’s vibrant heritage and attractions, while encouraging Ghanaians to explore Tanzania’s renowned tourism destinations, including its famous national parks and rich wildlife.
Officials from both Tanzania and Ghana underscored the route’s strategic importance as a catalyst for deeper economic cooperation and enhanced people-to-people interactions. This development aligns with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), promoting seamless movement of travellers and goods across borders to fuel continental integration.
For Africa’s travel sector, the new Air Tanzania service opens fresh opportunities for multi-destination itineraries and business travel, while supporting the broader agenda of a more interconnected and accessible African aviation market. The route is expected to stimulate tourism flows, facilitate trade partnerships, and contribute to the socio-economic development of both countries.
As Africa’s aviation landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like this exemplify the power of strategic air connectivity in bridging regional divides and unlocking the continent’s vast potential. Travel industry professionals should anticipate increased demand for East-West travel options and prepare to capitalise on the expanding network of direct flights linking key African cities.
