Mhondoro Safari Lodge Adds a Family Villa Suite
Mhondoro Safari Lodge has added a Family Villa Suite that can accommodate two adults with two children to increase the capacity of the exclusive-use villa product to a total of 10 guests. Adjacent to the Villa, the new Family Suite has two bedrooms, as well as a living area with a fireplace that leads to a private deck.
Located in Welgevonden Game Reserve in the Waterberg (Limpopo), the luxurious 5-star safari lodge is situated within the 35 000 hectare, malaria-free reserve that is known for excellent game viewing and frequent ‘Big 5’ sightings. Mhondoro Villa welcomes children of all ages and is ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together, providing a luxurious yet comfortable home-away-from-home complete with private chef and butler, as well as a guide with a private game viewing vehicle.
The magnificent Villa Master Suite has a spacious bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, and a separate private lounge and study that offers a calm sanctuary to work or relax. There are another two bedrooms, which both come with en-suite bathrooms and wooden decks with views of the lodge waterhole and the wilderness beyond.
The large, open-space kitchen, dining and lounge area provides ample opportunity for relaxation and entertainment, leading out to a heated pool and sun loungers. On balmy summer evenings, the Outdoor Lounge sets the scene for relaxing sundowners while watching ‘resident’ elephants stop by the waterhole for a drink, while a cosy indoor and outdoor fireplace means that guests can enjoy the magic of the wilderness even on chilly nights. A private, fully-equipped gym and a massage or yoga room are located within the Villa for those wishing to start the day with a rejuvenating workout, or relax with a massage treatment, yoga or Pilates session.
Dutch-owned Mhondoro is a fusion of African chic and edgy European influences. Unique features include a photographer’s dream: a waterhole with underground hide that is connected with the main lodge by a tunnel; and three heated swimming pools.Privately owned, Welgevonden Game Reserve stretches across 35 000 hectares in the Waterberg and is a mere 2h45-minute drive or a 50-minute flight from Johannesburg. Guests can expect varied terrain and a diverse natural habitat featuring the ‘Big 5’, including a large white rhino population. Guided walks with the endangered white rhino are very popular with guests, as is watching the ‘resident’ herd of elephants who visit the lodge’s waterhole daily. Mhondoro is child-friendly and welcomes children of all ages. Little travellers can run free at the dedicated open-air play area, which is protected by an elephant fence. A play room in the main lodge is stocked with games where children can enjoy themselves without disturbing other guests, while special children’s activities can also be arranged. (Children under 6 years of age may not be accommodated on scheduled game drives when other guests are joining. Private game drives may be arranged for families with small children at a rate of R750 per game drive, subject to the availability of a vehicle and a ranger.)
