Cahrter flights permitted to Botswana as of Nov 1st
Charter flights will be re-authorized for departures and arrivals in Botswana from 1 November. Only the international airports of Maun and Kasane will initially be open. International flights have been suspended in the country since March 28.
From next Sunday, November 1, charter flights will once again be allowed to depart and arrive in Botswana. The announcement was made this Monday, October 26 by the Ministry of the Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism. For a start, only the international airports of Maun and Kasane will be open to international traffic.
"The government is in the process of finalizing the legislative framework required to facilitate this air travel", explains the ministerial department.
As part of the fight against the spread of Covid-19, Botswana has closed its borders since March 28, thereby suspending all domestic and international commercial flights. Following the easing of health measures, Air Botswana resumed domestic travel on July 17. On the other hand, regional flights of the Botswana national company remain suspended.
With this easing measure, Botswana intends to boost tourism activity, a key sector for the national economy. According to 2019 figures from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the sector generated $ 2.32 billion in revenue, contributing 12.6% to the country's GDP.
