Uganda Airlines Opens New Skies to Accra and Kigali in Bold African Network Push Uganda Airlines Opens New Skies to Accra and Kigali in Bold African Network Push

Uganda Airlines has taken another confident stride in its continental growth journey with the unveiling of scheduled direct flights to Accra in Ghana and Kigali in Rwanda. The announcement, made in Kampala, signals a fresh chapter for the national carrier as it works to unlock new opportunities in travel, trade and investment while cementing Entebbe International Airport's role as a rising African hub.

According to the airline, services to Accra will commence on 27 October 2026, operating four times weekly, while the Kigali route will take off on 18 November 2026 as a daily flight. This carefully phased rollout arrives at a moment when the carrier is actively restoring operational stability following earlier disruptions to its fleet, and it demonstrates renewed confidence in the airline's ability to serve a rapidly growing intra-African market.

The addition of Accra is particularly meaningful. Ghana's capital is a strategic commercial, diplomatic and tourism anchor in West Africa, and the new service complements Uganda Airlines' existing Lagos operations, creating a stronger West African footprint. Trade professionals working across East and West Africa now have a more direct tool for crafting competitive multi-city itineraries, whether for corporate clients, event delegates or leisure travellers curious about Ghana's rich cultural heritage, coastal charm and vibrant urban scene.

Kigali, meanwhile, brings Uganda Airlines into closer partnership with one of East Africa's fastest-growing economies. The Rwandan capital has earned its reputation as a modern, well-organised destination increasingly favoured by conference organisers, technology investors and eco-tourism enthusiasts. The new daily service offers seamless movement between two dynamic regional markets, while opening onward connections through Entebbe to Asia, the Middle East and Europe. This blend of regional and intercontinental reach gives the trade a compelling proposition to place before both corporate accounts and leisure clients.

Speaking during the announcement, Uganda Airlines Acting Chief Executive Officer Ato Girma Wake described the launch of the Accra and Kigali services as another key milestone in the carrier's growth strategy. He noted that as Africa's connectivity continues to strengthen, the new routes will reinforce commercial and tourism partnerships while offering guests greater choice, convenience and flexibility. The veteran aviator, who has been leading efforts to stabilise the airline after structural and operational challenges, underlined that the carrier is now in a much stronger position to deliver timely and efficient services to its fast-growing customer base.

The benefits, however, stretch well beyond passenger movements. Uganda Airlines has confirmed that the new services will significantly boost its cargo capabilities, connecting exporters and importers to markets in West and East Africa. The routes are expected to support the movement of fresh produce, manufactured goods and time-sensitive cargo, a valuable development for African economies whose growth increasingly depends on quick access to regional and international markets. For agencies working with corporate clients in logistics, agriculture and manufacturing, this creates fresh cross-selling opportunities alongside traditional passenger offerings.

The bigger picture points to a maturing African aviation landscape, in which national carriers are steadily reshaping how the continent connects with itself. Uganda Airlines' latest additions come at a moment when demand for intra-African travel is rising, driven by trade liberalisation under the African Continental Free Trade Area, expanding middle-class mobility and a renewed appetite for authentic African destinations. Trade partners who move quickly to align with these emerging routes stand to gain from stronger commercial ties, broader product portfolios and a growing base of travellers eager to explore the continent through direct, efficient services.

As Uganda Airlines pushes forward with its connected African network vision, the coming years promise a more integrated continent where doing business, discovering cultures and moving goods across borders becomes noticeably smoother for every stakeholder in the travel value chain.
